North Shields Metro Station

A perfectly serviceable Metro station at North Shields has been replaced by a monstrosity at enormous cost. Only half the platforms are covered and that the cover is at the East end. If the designers had only realised that the prevailing wind is fron the South-West then they might just have known that the rain blows horizontally under such cover as there is.
During the construction steps and concrete ramps were built, but since completion these have been blocked off so that if the lifts break down (as has happened already) wheelchairs cannot leave the platform and at best have to catch the next train, travel three stops to Whitley Bay and return. I could go on about the bum-freezing stainless steel seats, but I won’t.
