Ice Maiden 1 finally comes to rest

Back in 2008 a former Russian icebreaker/ tank transporter MV Paardeberg was brought to A&P Tyne to be converted to a single-hull accommodation block for the North sea oilfields. However Ice Maiden 1, as she was now called suffered a series of incidents on arrival, the owners went to the wall and she has stood unloved on the riverside since then. O’Brian’s appear to have purchase her for scrap and last week she was maneuvered into the dock at Wallsend where the units for the second Tyne Tunnel were fabricated not so long a go. The gallery shows her alongside the quay, in the dock (pics by Mike Newby) and from the shore.
