Fiddlers Green memorial to all lost fishermen.

The recent loss of a young fisherman instigated the call for a memorial to all fisherman who had been lost in the industry. Public donations were enough to commission the sculpture in steel, by Ray Lonsdale, which was unveiled on 24th September 2017 at North Shields Fish Quay.

The mouse is the sculptor’s tribute to Robert Thompson, the Yorkshire furniture maker, whose works always contain a mouse. Many such mice hide on furniture all around the locality.

The plaque shown below has the words of Fiddlers Green; a song which needs no explanation.
