    They are known as ‘jackets’ and are supporting structures for wind-turbines. The top sections are produced in Holland or Belgium and brought to Wallsend on barges, as in the last photos. The lower section is then added as seen in earlier shots. These take a number of forms, the latest have suction cylinders which act like cookie-cutters when they are pumped out – the taller ones (for deeper water) have ‘spiked’ legs. The shorter ones are for a wind-farm off Aberdeen and the tall ones for further out off Wick, Jim
